Art as pilgrimage
Kildare
2022- present
A collaborative project with a group of older women over the age of 65. The project explores histories of pilgrimage and it’s current role in society. Bodily relics, folk rituals, votive offerings, shrines, desire to leave a mark and be remembered healing, We engage in weekly chat cafes to nurture relationships, discuss themes and highlight sites of interest. We go on pilgrimages to heritage sites and sacred places in Kildare to exchange oral histories to learn of each other’s personal rituals, devotion and lineage. Their stories and engagement is recorded through audio recordings, film photography, reflective journaling and map making.
